Photographing a Handmade Product.

Good photography is as important as a good handmade stuff. Many of us create wonderful masterpieces, but fail to take good pictures of them. Hence, their true beauty isn’t brought out completely.

Hence, this post would help amateur photographers to a make a difference in their photographs. These are some of the tricks that I follow for a good photograph.

Camera
First and foremost is the camera that you are using. Many smart phones these days click pictures to that quality of a professional camera. Theses tip discussed below is applicable for any type of camera you use. Having luxurious camera doesn’t always mean that you’ll take great photos. I’ve seen some completely astonishing images shot with nothing more than a smart phone.

Using the Flash
You might think that you should only use flash at night time or indoors, but that’s not the case at all. If it is an exceptionally bright day and the sun is creating harsh shadows on your subject, switch on your flash. This extra light onto your subject, will be able to fill in those ugly shadows and create an even exposure.

Focus on the Object
Keep it simple. Don’t try to pack too many elements into your image; it will just end up looking messy. Please do not add multiple elements as backgrounds to your product, which will actually shift focus from the product.

Turn On Gridlines to Line Up Your Shot
One of the easiest and best ways to improve the photos you take on your mobile device is by turning on gridlines so you can properly set up your shot. It superimposes a series of lines on the screen of your smartphone's camera app that are based on the "rule of thirds" -- one of the most well-known principles of photographic composition.

If you're taking a photo from a distance, you may be tempted to zoom in. Actually, it's better not to zoom in. Instead, either get closer to your subject or take the photo from the default distance away and crop it later on.

Background
Always stick to a subtle background. This enhances the actual colours of your product.

After-editing - Choosing The Right App

There are a plenty of camera shooting & editing applications for your smartphone, so how do you decide? One thing to remember is that apps have been designed to help you to use your smartphone to its full potential. These apps help you to enhance the picture by adjusting the colour, brightness, tone etc.

In addition to all these, you can use these apps to WATERMARK your images, which is very crucial in handmade products and retaining your ownership.

Be Patient and Persevere

With time, patience, and perseverance, you will get better; with each and every photo you take.

If you find these tips useful, do share the images you click after this :)

Much Love,
